High soil salinity, which is caused typically by NaCl, results in ion toxicity and hyperosmotic stress leading to
numerous pathologies including generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and programmed cell death. Salt
tolerance determinants are categorized either as effectors that directly modulate stress etiology or attenuate
stress effects, or as regulatory molecules that are involved in stress perception, signal transduction, or
modulation of effector function.
