Abstract

Plant protoplasts, i.e. plant cells devoid of cell walls, represent a very efficient experimental model and are also
valuable tools for biotechnological applications, such as somatic hybridization and genetic transformation,
providing they exhibit totipotency, i.e. can regenerate to produce whole plants.
