Phylogenetic Analysis of Maize Expansion Sequences
Cell wall proteins are believed to play important roles in regulating cell wall extensibility, which in turn controls
cell enlargement. Among cell wall proteins studied to date, expansions are unique in their ability to induce
immediate cell wall extension invitro and cell expansion in vivo. Since they were first isolated from cucumber
hypocotyls, expansion proteins have been identified in many plant species and organs on the basis of activity
assays and immune blotting.
